England’s Rugby World Cup campaign is off to a promising start with their victory over Argentina, but Defence Coach Kevin Sinfield is adamant that the team won’t lose sight of their immediate challenge – Japan. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals, and England is keenly aware of the importance of their upcoming match against Japan in Pool D.
Despite a rocky August that saw England lose three out of four warm-up games, their recent win against Argentina has injected fresh optimism into the squad. However, Sinfield emphasizes the need to stay grounded. “One good game doesn’t make a World Cup,” he cautions.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, Sinfield highlighted the significance of their clash with Japan. “It’s all about Japan for us. We understand the threat Japan pose, we’re respectful of them as a nation, the players they’ve got, and their coaching team,” he stated.
England’s remaining pool fixtures will see them face World Cup newcomers Chile on September 23 and 11th-ranked Samoa on October 7, following their game against Japan in Nice.
The recent victory against Argentina, where George Ford played a pivotal role with all the points, provided a morale boost to the squad. This achievement was especially commendable considering the early red card received by Tom Curry, which will sideline him for England’s next two matches.
Sinfield, a former England Rugby League World Cup player, noted a positive shift in the squad’s dynamics. “Some of the stresses and strains that I suppose you saw in people’s faces have gone, and that can only help us moving forward,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the fierce competition for positions within the team, driving players to excel in training. “There’s a great spirit within the group, and I think that was shown in how the guys worked so hard for each other at the weekend,” Sinfield added.
As England’s Rugby World Cup journey unfolds, the focus remains squarely on the immediate challenges, with Japan in their sights. The team’s dedication and determination will play a crucial role in their quest for success in the tournament. 🏉🌟 #RugbyWorldCup #EnglandRugby #FocusOnJapanhttps://www.sportiwe.com/
