Despite Diya Chitale’s spirited efforts, Wanwisa Aueawiriyayothin clinched the fifth position with a score of 15-13, 8-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-8 for Thailand.
The Indian paddlers also faced a challenging battle in the mixed doubles category. G Sathiyan and Manika Batra, after a fierce contest, succumbed to the Thai pair of Phakpoom Sanguansin and Orawan Paranang with a score of 2-3 (11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11). During the match, Manika’s resilience was on full display as she continued despite twisting her ankle and needing a 10-minute medical attention break.
Harmeet Desai and Sreeja Akula also gave their all but couldn’t overcome the top-seeded Japanese pair of Tomokazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata, losing 6-11, 7-11, 8-11 in a Round of 32 encounter.
However, it wasn’t all heartache for the Indian contingent. In their first-round match, the Indian duo beat the Malaysian pair of Shen Qi Wong and Xin Ai Tee with scores of 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, showcasing their potential and resilience.
