Powerhouse Performances: Manju Rani and Sonia Lather Lead RSPB’s Charge in 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships

A Symphony of Strength, Skill, and Determination Unfolds on the Canvas

In a display of sheer dominance, Indian boxing stalwarts, Manju Rani (48kg) and Sonia Lather (57kg), spearheaded a formidable charge by eight boxers from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) into the semifinals of the 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships at the GBU Indoor Stadium in Greater Noida.

The RSPB contingent, comprising Anamika (50kg), Jyoti (52kg), Shiksha (54kg), Anupama (70kg), Nandini (75kg), and Nupur (81+kg), ensured a medal haul for their team. In the 48kg category, Manju Rani showcased her prowess, securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Delhi’s Sanjana. Her next challenge lies in the semifinals against All India Police’s (AIP) Minakshi.

Sonia Lather, the 2016 World Championship silver medallist, booked her spot in the semifinals with a decisive 5-2 victory over Vinakshi Dhota of Himachal Pradesh. Her upcoming clash in the semifinals awaits Punjab’s Mandeep Kaur, who secured a 4-1 win over AIP’s Preeti in the quarterfinals.

In a thrilling encounter, 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jasmine of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) achieved an RSC victory over Maharashtra’s Poonam Kaithwas in the 60kg category, setting the stage for a semifinal showdown with Menka Devi of Himachal Pradesh.

The 63kg category witnessed a captivating bout as AIP’s Sonu secured a 5-2 verdict against 2022 Senior National Championship winner Shashi Chopra. Sonu’s next challenge is Uttar Pradesh’s Rinky Sharma, who clinched a convincing 5-0 victory over Himachal Pradesh’s Muskan Rana in the quarterfinals.

Youth World Champion Ankushita Boro displayed her prowess in the 66kg category, registering a resounding 5-0 victory over RSPB’s Anjali Tushir. Boro is set to face Deepika from Himachal Pradesh in the semifinals, who secured a 0-5 victory against UP’s Rekha.

In the 81kg category, Haryana’s Saweety Boora, the 2023 World Championship gold medallist, showcased her dominance by forcing the referee to stop the contest against Maharashtra’s Saie Davkhar. Another compelling 81kg bout saw Assam’s Bhagyabati Kachari securing a Referee Stopped Contest verdict against Saitejaswini Maineni from Andhra Pradesh, setting up a highly anticipated semifinal clash against Saweety.

The tournament, organized by the Boxing Federation of India, has attracted over 300 boxers across 12 categories. The finals, promising more exhilarating bouts, are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, ensuring a thrilling climax to this elite championship.
