A Narrow Defeat, but a Spirited Display!
In an electrifying display of skill at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, Indian fighters Amisha (54kg), Prachi Tokas (80+kg), and Hardik Panwar (80kg) clinched silver medals in fiercely contested finals. Despite facing formidable adversaries, these young pugilists showcased unwavering determination and exceptional skill.
The Asian junior champion, Hardik Panwar, engaged in a nail-biting contest against Russia’s Ashurov Bairamkhan, narrowly conceding a 2-3 defeat. The intensity of their bout kept spectators on the edge of their seats, with both fighters displaying aggression. Ultimately, the Russian boxer managed to tip the scales in his favor.
In the girls’ category, Amisha and Prachi fought valiantly but succumbed to 0-5 defeats in their respective final matches. Amisha faced Ayazhan Sydyk of Kazakhstan, while Prachi took on the formidable Sobirakhon Shakhobiddinova, a two-time Asian junior champion from Uzbekistan.
India has already secured an impressive 17 medals, including five bronze, in this prestigious tournament. The nation now pins its hopes on nine determined pugilists who are poised to vie for gold on the competition’s final day.
The boxers set for the gold rush include Payal (48kg), Nisha (52kg), Vini (57kg), Shrushti (63kg), Akansha (70kg), Megha (80kg), Jatin (54kg), Sahil (75kg), and Hemant (80+kg). Earlier, Neha (46kg), Nidhi (66kg), Pari (50kg), Kritika (75kg), and Sikandar (48kg) secured bronze medals, concluding their campaigns with valor in the semi-finals.
