In a spectacular display of skill and determination, para-badminton maestro Pramod Bhagat clinched the gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category at the ongoing Asian Para Games.

This triumph marks a historic milestone for Bhagat, completing an extraordinary trio of gold medals, which includes the prestigious Paralympic Gold and World Championships Gold.

Representing his nation for the fourth time in the Para Asian Games, Pramod notched one gold and two bronze medals across the three events he participated in. In a riveting face-off against compatriot Nitesh Kumar, Bhagat showcased exceptional prowess and unwavering resilience, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats.

The initial game was a nail-biting affair, with Pramod narrowly securing victory at 22-20. Nitesh mounted a fierce comeback, clinching the second game at 21-19. The destiny of the gold medal hung in the balance.

In the third game, Nitesh seized an early lead, maintaining a four-point advantage with the score at 18-14. However, in a spectacular turn of events reminiscent of his Paralympic finals comeback, Pramod rallied and stunned Nitesh, ultimately claiming the game at 21-19 to retain his gold medal.

The final scoreline stood at a heart-pounding 22-20, 18-21, and 21-19.

Reflecting on his monumental victory, Pramod graciously acknowledged Nitesh’s exceptional performance, stating, “Firstly, a huge congratulations to Nitesh Kumar.

I believe he played the game of his life, although he ended up with a silver. He is a brilliant player and pushed me to my limits, as he did today.”

He continued, “Somehow, even when I was trailing, I held onto the belief that I could stage a comeback and secure the win. The thought of losing never crossed my mind. I focused on one point at a time and made it possible. I am truly elated with my performance.

Although I would have liked to improve my performance in both doubles events where I secured bronze medals.Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support.”
