India Creates History in Asian Para Games with Record-Breaking Medal Haul

Gold Rush and Glory: India’s Para Athletes Set New Records

Indian para-athletes have etched their names in history by achieving their highest-ever medal tally in the Asian Para Games. India now boasts an impressive total of 82 medals, including 18 gold, in this prestigious competition. This remarkable feat surpasses the country’s earlier best performance, which saw them secure 72 medals in the 2018 edition held in Indonesia.

The Indian contingent, including para-athletes from various disciplines, contributed 18 medals to this historic achievement, including three gold medals, on a thrilling Thursday of competition. India’s medal haul now stands at 18 gold, 23 silver, and 41 bronze, a testament to the nation’s growing prowess in the world of para-sports.

As the fourth day of competition came to a close, India found itself in the eighth position in the medals tally. While the total number of medals secured was impressive, India did not clinch as many gold medals on this particular day, causing South Korea and Indonesia to move ahead in the rankings. The medals tally continues to be led by China, with a staggering 156 gold medals.

With two more days of intense competition left in the Games, India remains on track to achieve its ambitious goal of securing 100 medals in this edition. This remarkable milestone builds upon India’s performance in the previous edition in Jakarta, where they won 72 medals and displayed their prowess on the global stage.

Track and field athletes played a significant role in India’s medal success on this thrilling Thursday. In fact, athletics contributed to 45 out of the 82 medals secured by India, including an impressive 14 gold medals.

Sachin Sarjerao Khilari set the tone for the day by clinching the first gold medal in the men’s F46 shot put category, with a Games record throw of 16.03m. Rohit Kumar added to the glory by securing the bronze with a throw of 14.56m.

Para shooter Sidhartha Babu shone bright with another gold medal in the R6 mixed 50m rifle-prone SH1 event, achieving an impressive Asian Para Games score of 247.7.

The compound mixed team of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar displayed their mettle by winning gold in a closely contested final, defeating their Chinese counterparts Lin Yueshan and Ai Xinliang with a score of 151-149.

The medal rush continued as India also secured a bronze medal in archery men’s doubles W1 event. The pair of Adil Mohamed Nazir Ansari and Naveen Dalal outclassed their Kazakh opponents, Nurshat Toleukassym and Sagdat Duisembayev, with a score of 125-120.

Simran and Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav contributed to the silver medal tally with outstanding performances in women’s T12 100m and women’s F34 shot put, respectively.

Monu Ghangas and Narayan Thakur added to the silver and bronze medal collection in the men’s F11 discus throw and men’s T35 100m events, respectively. Shreyansh Trivedi secured a bronze in the men’s T37 100m, and Muthuraja claimed another bronze in the men’s F55 shot put.

Para badminton and chess also witnessed India’s exceptional achievements, with athletes like Sukant Indukant Kadam, Sivan Nithya Sumathy, Manisha Ramadass, Mandeep Kaur, Krishna Nagar, Sivarajan Solaimalai, Pramod Bhagat, Bhaveshkumar Rathi, and Himanshi showcasing their talents and clinching medals in their respective categories.
