In a thrilling display of squash prowess, India’s Saurav Ghosal and Ramit Tandon have surged into the second round of the prestigious Qatar Classic Squash Championship, a marquee event on the PSA World Tour Platinum circuit. The Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex served as the battleground for these remarkable performances that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Saurav Ghosal, ranked 17th in the world, faced a formidable challenge in Balazs Farkas of Hungary. The contest was a rollercoaster ride from the get-go, with Ghosal initially finding himself in a shaky position in the first game. However, like a true champion, he quickly regained his composure and stormed back to claim the first game with a scoreline of 11-6. Ghosal continued his dominant streak, taking the second game 11-8.

The third game witnessed an epic battle as Farkas pushed Ghosal to the limit, resulting in a gripping 11-all tie. But it was the Indian maestro who ultimately broke free, securing the third game and sealing the match in straight games, all within an intense 39-minute showdown.

Meanwhile, Ramit Tandon faced off against Canada’s David Baillargeon in a match that had spectators holding their breath. Tandon displayed his exceptional skills, winning the first two games convincingly with identical scores of 11-5. However, a resilient Baillargeon fought back, narrowly taking the third game 11-9.

Tandon, undeterred by the setback, made a stunning comeback in the fourth game, claiming it 11-5 to clinch the match in 41 minutes. His performance was a testament to his determination and adaptability under pressure.

These victories mark a significant milestone for Indian squash on the international stage. Ghosal and Tandon are the sole representatives of India in this week-long tournament, which showcases the world’s top players in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Notably, the women’s event has made a triumphant return to Qatar after an eight-year hiatus, with its last staging dating back to 2015. The Qatar Classic Squash Championship continues to captivate audiences with its blend of skill, strategy, and heart-pounding action.
