PV Sindhu suffers early exit at Korea Open, while N Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor secure victory in first-round matches.

PV Sindhu suffered yet another disappointment as she crashed out in the first round of the Korea Open.

PV Sindhu, the double Olympic medallist, faced a disappointing first-round exit at the Korea Open Super 500 tournament, losing in a hard-fought three-game match against Pai Yu-Po from Chinese Taipei. The defeat adds to her inconsistent form since her return from a long injury layoff, resulting in a title-less streak this season.

Currently ranked 17th in the world, it is her lowest ranking in over a decade. Sindhu, who reached a career-best world number 2 in 2016, will now have to focus on improving her ranking in the Olympic qualification period, which ends in April next year.

On a brighter note, the mixed pair of N Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor advanced to the second round with a solid win over their opponents from the Philippines. However, other Indian shuttlers, including Aakarshi Kashyap, Tasnim Mir, Mithun Manjunath, and Ashmita Chaliha, were eliminated in the first round, highlighting the challenges faced by the second batch of Indian players.

Despite the setback, Sindhu remains determined to find her footing and bounce back in the upcoming tournaments. The BWF World Tour offers several opportunities for players to showcase their talent and climb up the rankings. Sindhu’s fans and supporters are hopeful that she will regain her form and continue to shine on the international badminton stage.
