Rafael Nadal expresses “immense joy” following Carlos Alcaraz’s victory at Wimbledon and sends a gracious message to the world number one.

Rafael Nadal, the renowned Spanish tennis legend, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz after the 20-year-old triumphed in the Wimbledon 2023 Men’s singles final against Novak Djokovic, securing his second Grand Slam title. In an enthralling match that lasted four hours and 42 minutes on Centre Court, Alcaraz staged a remarkable comeback, breaking Djokovic’s 34-match winning streak at Wimbledon.

Following Alcaraz’s historic victory, Nadal took to Instagram to extend his congratulations and shared a message of immense joy. Nadal wrote, “Congratulations, Alcaraz. You have given us immense joy today. Surely, our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, whom you have joined today as a member of Wimbledon, has also been cheering wherever he is. A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion.”

Carlos Alcaraz’s remarkable win drew parallels to the rise of Rafael Nadal himself, who first became the world’s number one player after securing his maiden Wimbledon crown in 2008 by defeating Roger Federer. However, Alcaraz already held the title of being the best in the world as he entered Wimbledon 2023. The young talent made a significant impact on the tennis circuit last year by winning the US Open. Alcaraz now joins an exclusive group of players in the Open Era who have won multiple major titles before turning 21.

The Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz saw a commanding start from Djokovic, the seven-time champion, who won the first set 6-1, converting two of his six break points. However, Alcaraz was determined to stage a comeback and managed to level the game by winning the second set 7-6 after an intense 85-minute battle.

Alcaraz continued his dominance in the third set, breaking Djokovic three times, including an extraordinary 27-minute game at 3-1 that featured 13 deuces. Djokovic kept his chances alive by winning the fourth set 6-3.

The deciding set started with Alcaraz facing a shaky start, but he regained momentum after breaking Djokovic for a 2-1 lead with a spectacular passing shot winner. Djokovic displayed his disappointment by smashing his racket against the wooden net post, venting out his frustration. Ultimately, Alcaraz emerged victorious with a 6-4 win in the final set when Djokovic hit a forehand shot into the net.
